Summer Buffet 2017

The Lodge Summer Buffet attracted just under fifty people who enjoyed a splendid buffet from Vince Parker and his team of ladies. Onslow Lodge members and their guests were joined by members of Surrey Lodge who partook in the quiz which they won.  A raffle raised funds which enabled the event to donate £250 to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and a similar amount to the forthcoming Surrey Provincial Festival. Next year’s event is booked in for Sunday the 22th July 2018.   Meanwhile the Lodge’s Christmas Carol Carvery lunch is booked for Sunday 10th December 2017.

Provincial Grand Master Presents Two Long Service Certificates

2016_06-Ian-Chandler-002-200x300
V.W.Bro. Ian Chandler PGM (Surrey)

On 9 March the Provincial Grand Master for the Province of Surrey, V.W.Bro. Ian Michael Chandler visited Onslow Lodge to present long service certificates to two of our members.

Bro Hector Harold Goss – 60 Years

Born 19th April 1932

Married to Barbara and has twin girls and a son who all live in Guildford, eight Grandchildren and three Great Grandchildren

Hector worked for the family Men’s Outfitters  business in Guildford started by his father John, who was also a member of Onslow Lodge. Hector has stepped away from the business now and it is being rung by his son and grandsons. A proper family run business.

Hector joined Freemasonry in 1957 being Initiated into Onslow Lodge on 10th January. The Junior Deacon that evening who guided the candidate through the ceremony was Bro John GOSS, his father. Hectors father was Master of Onslow Lodge in 1960.

Hector went through the Lodge Offices and was Installed as Master of Onslow Lodge in 1971. In 1972 he joined South West Surrey Masters Lodge. In 1982 Hector was Appointed PPAGDC and in 2000 Promoted to PPJGW. He was the Lodge Charity Steward in 2003.

Bro William John Harding, (Bill) – 50 Years

Born 5th June 1927

Married to Muriel and had two children, a son who lives in Guildford and a daughter who lives in Kent.

They now have three Grandsons and three Great Grandsons

Bill did his two years and two months National Service in the Royal Signals before joining Smiths Industries Engineering Department where he spent just under 40 years.

Bills main project was the Fuel Measurement and Management System for Concord and bearing in mind that no Concord ever ran out of fuel, must have done a good job.

Bill joined Freemasonry in 1967, being Initiated into Onslow Lodge on 12th January. His work stopped him attending for a while.

In 2004 he was appointed PPAGPurs and following this he progressed through the Offices and was Installed as Worshipful Master of Onslow Lodge in 2008

Bill was an ardent supporter of Onslow Lodge and the Onslow Lodge of Instruction until he became unwell some three years ago.

The PGM was also presented with a cheque for £1000 as a contribution from the Lodge to the 2019 Provincial Charity Festival supporting the RMBI.
